Dissent Films
Matthew Murphy is an independent filmmaker drawing inspiration from conceptualism, minimalism, and realism. He is a self-taught artist, working with some of today’s most respected and new filmmakers, such as Ramin Bahrani (Director), Sean Kirby (Director of Photography). He is also an avid photographer, believing all aspects play well with each other.
Matthew returned to the states after two years studying in Australia to pursue a career in film and currently resides in New York City. He has been fortunate to work on many outstanding productions and thus allowing him to grow his career and start his company, Dissent Films.
He is currently in production on a feature length documentary that he is producing and directing.
Matt Murphy was my first choice to document the launch of my designer
fashion label Imitation. I was looking for a film maker plugged into the New
York scene - not just fashion, but across the cultural spectrum, underground
and mainstream. I wanted a collaborator that could put our efforts to create something genuinely innovative, sustainable, and beautiful into the context
of where we are at as a culture. Matt took my passionately expressed, yet
totally disparate ideas, and made sense of it all, exceeding my
highest expectations in the process.
